Me In A Nutshell

I am a Full Stack Engineer and Software Development Lead with years of experience architecting and building web solutions including full redesign of the front end, backend, and restructuring databases. A lifelong interest in STEM—and a strong sense of leadership, grit, and teamwork—led me to this point, although I didn't always follow a straight line. Before earning a Full Stack Web Development Certification from Southern Methodist University and moving into technology, I earned my Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Baylor University and worked in health care as a lead optician.

Changing my career path was one of the hardest but most rewarding things I have ever done. I am incredibly lucky to be able to do what I love. I embrace the concept of “paying it forward” by helping others launch their own careers in tech. I have been a part-time teaching assistant for the school that trained me. I also mentor several junior developers and regularly share my experience as a panel speaker at various educational opportunities and sessions.

I believe that no one should ever stop learning. When I am not working, I'm usually studying for some sort of certification to increase my depth of knowledge and to stay current with new technologies. I have also started the process to earn my Masters degree in Software Engineering with a tentative graduation date of May 2025. I remain active in the community by attending conferences to further my education and enhance my skill set.

To unwind, I stay active by hiking with my dogs and spending time at the gym. I enjoy games like the Borderlands Series and Diablo III. In my former life, I was an amateur competitive powerlifter, and I still lift as a hobby and a way to stay healthy. Fun Fact: I won first place in my division at my first meet.

I believe in using one's talents and gifts to help others. It is easy to underestimate the impact one can have as a developer to solve problems, encourage the sharing of information, and to make the world just a little bit better. That's why I was delighted to learn about Dallas Give Camp, an annual event that calls on tech professionals to donate their time to help charities and nonprofits with everything from website, webstore, and database creation to social media planning. I'm especially proud of some of the projects I've worked on for Dallas Give Camp.
